Bistek (Filipino Beef Steak)

Bistek is a Filipino dish which typically consists of beef marinated in soy sauce and calamansi (calamondin), pan fried and garnished with fried onion.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb beef sirloin sliced thinly
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 onion cut into rings
  • 1 tomato stem removed and sliced lenghthwise
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Instructions

  • Marinate beef in lemon juice and soy sauce for 30 minutes. Drain and reserve marinade.
  • Pan fry the meat in hot oil until brown. Transfer to a plate.
  • In the remaining oil, add onions and fry for couple of minutes.
  • Add reserved marinade and stir, adding more water and soy sauce if desired.
  • Let mixture boil and then add sliced tomatoes. Stir and cook for another minute.
  • Pour sauce over the beef and serve.
  • Enjoy!
