Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line a 9X13 inch baking pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
In a bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and baking soda.
In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and both sugars. Beat in eggs one at a time. Beat in vanilla.
Add flour mixture and beat until well blended. Gently fold in chopped dates and nuts.
Spread batter evenly into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean. Cool completely on rack and then slice into bars.
