Crispy Baked Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings These crispy baked salt and pepper chicken wings are a simple, delicious and healthier way of eating chicken wings. My inspiration for this dish comes from a similar salt and pepper chicken wings dish that my family always orders at a local Chinese restaurant. I was so happy with the outcome as the wings came out surprisingly crispy!

Crispy Baked Salt and Pepper Chicken Wings

These chicken wings are simply seasoned with sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper. Then, the wings are baked for an hour on a rack placed on a baking sheet to allow for more even cooking. It is as simple as that! My family could not resist these crispy wings, especially when eaten fresh from the oven. It is amazing that there is no oil in the recipe yet the wings came out so crispy and the best part about baking these wings is the easy cleanup. My family ate these wings on their own, but you can enjoy it with your favorite dipping sauce. This recipe is now my new favorite way of making wings without feeling guilty. Enjoy!

Cooking Tips for Perfect Wings

To ensure your wings come out perfectly crispy, start by patting them dry with paper towels. Removing excess moisture is key to achieving that crunch. Seasoning is also important; don’t be shy with the salt and pepper. If you want to kick it up a notch, consider adding garlic powder or onion powder for extra flavor. Make sure to arrange the wings in a single layer on the rack, leaving space between each wing. This allows hot air to circulate evenly, promoting even cooking. If you prefer extra crispy wings, flip them halfway through the baking time to expose both sides to the heat. Lastly, keep an eye on the wings during the last few minutes of baking to avoid overcooking. Every oven is different, so check for that golden-brown color and crispy texture before taking them out.

Serving Suggestions

These salt and pepper chicken wings are pretty versatile when it comes to serving options. They shine on their own, but pairing them with dipping sauces can elevate the experience. A tangy vinegar-based dipping sauce or a creamy ranch dressing works well. If you enjoy a bit of spice, try serving with a sriracha mayo or even a spicy garlic sauce. For a fun presentation, consider garnishing the wings with chopped green onions or sesame seeds. They can be served as an appetizer for game day or as part of a casual dinner with sides like coleslaw or sweet potato fries. You might also want to offer a variety of sauces on the side so everyone can customize their wings to their liking.

Storage Instructions

If you have leftovers, storing them properly will help maintain their crispiness. Allow the wings to cool completely before placing them in an airtight container. To keep them from getting soggy, avoid stacking them directly on top of each other. If you have multiple layers, use parchment paper between the layers. Refrigerate them for up to three days. When you’re ready to eat, reheating in the oven is the best method to restore that crispy texture. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C), place the wings on a baking sheet, and heat for about 10-15 minutes. If you want to speed things up, you can use an air fryer for about 5-7 minutes. Just be sure to keep an eye on them to avoid overcooking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use frozen chicken wings?

Yes, you can use frozen chicken wings, but it’s best to thaw them completely before cooking. Pat them dry to remove excess moisture for that extra crispiness.

What dipping sauces go well with these wings?

These wings pair great with classic options like ranch or blue cheese dressing. If you’re feeling adventurous, try a spicy honey or garlic soy sauce for a little twist.

How do I store leftover wings?

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. To reheat, pop them in the oven for a few minutes to get that crispy texture back.

Can I make these wings ahead of time?

You can prepare the wings and season them a few hours in advance, just keep them covered in the fridge. Bake them fresh when you’re ready to serve for the best crunch.

If you spray a rack with oil & put wings on it, then you do not have to turn them!
