My sister normally uses different parts of the chicken, but I decided to use chicken wings since it’s easier to fry. The chicken wings were seasoned and then coated in a mixture of garlic, egg and cornstarch. It was then fried until browned and cooked through.
A challenge I encountered was when some garlic got separated from the batter and was fried separately. The wings turned out okay: crispy on the outside, moist inside and tasted garlicky! This garlic fried chicken is easy to make and is a sure hit especially for those who love garlic!
Cooking Tips for Perfect Wings
To achieve the perfect crispy texture, make sure your oil is hot enough before adding the wings. Ideally, the oil should be around 350 to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. If you don’t have a thermometer, you can test the oil by dropping a small piece of batter into it. If it sizzles and rises to the surface quickly, you are good to go. Fry the wings in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, which can lower the oil temperature and result in soggy wings. After frying, let the wings rest on a wire rack instead of paper towels. This allows air to circulate around them, keeping them crispy. For an extra flavor boost, consider marinating the wings in a garlic-infused oil or adding some hot sauce to the batter for a spicy kick. Experimenting with different seasonings can also lead to new flavor profiles that you might enjoy. Don’t forget to check the internal temperature, which should reach 165 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure they are fully cooked.
Serving Suggestions and Pairings
Crispy garlic fried chicken wings are versatile and can be served in many ways. For a classic approach, pair them with a side of creamy ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping. Fresh celery and carrot sticks complement the wings well and add a nice crunch. If you’re hosting a gathering, consider serving the wings on a platter with a variety of dipping sauces, such as honey mustard or spicy sriracha. For a more substantial meal, these wings go great with sides like coleslaw, potato wedges, or even a simple green salad. To elevate the dish, garnish the wings with chopped green onions or fresh parsley before serving. If you’re feeling adventurous, drizzle some honey or maple syrup on top for a sweet contrast to the garlic flavor. These wings also make a great addition to a game day spread, alongside snacks like nachos and sliders, ensuring a hit at any gathering.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use other parts of the chicken instead of wings?
Sure, you can use drumsticks or even boneless chicken thighs. Just keep in mind that cooking times may vary, so make sure everything is cooked through.
What should I do if my garlic gets too brown?
If the garlic starts to brown too quickly, you can remove it from the oil and set it aside. Just be careful not to burn it as that can make the wings taste bitter.
How should I store leftovers?
Store any leftover wings in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. To reheat, bake them in the oven to get that crispy texture back.
Can I make these wings ahead of time?
You can prep the wings and coat them in the garlic-cornstarch mixture a few hours in advance. Just keep them in the fridge until you’re ready to fry them for the best results.
