In this recipe, the halibut fillets are first marinated in a lemon-garlic based marinade. It is then baked in the oven for 20 minutes. Finally, it is topped with some fresh chopped tomatoes and parsley. The result is delicious and flaky fish perfectly complimented by the smoky lemon–garlic sauce. We even enjoyed the leftovers- when the fish has had more time to marinate in the delicious lemon-garlic sauce. Yum!
Cooking Tips for Perfect Halibut
To achieve perfectly cooked halibut, focus on the thickness of your fillets. Halibut can vary in thickness, so adjust your cooking time accordingly. For fillets about one inch thick, 20 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit usually does the trick. If your fillets are thicker, add a few extra minutes. Keep an eye on the fish and check for doneness by flaking it with a fork. If it flakes easily and is opaque throughout, it’s ready to serve. A meat thermometer can also help; the internal temperature should reach 145 degrees Fahrenheit. If you want an extra layer of flavor, consider searing the fish in a pan for a couple of minutes before placing it in the oven. This creates a lovely golden crust. Lastly, don’t forget to let the fish rest for a few minutes after baking. This allows the juices to redistribute and makes for a more tender bite.
Serving Suggestions and Pairings
Lemon garlic halibut pairs wonderfully with a variety of sides and accompaniments. A fresh, crisp salad can balance the richness of the fish. Try a simple arugula salad dressed with olive oil and lemon juice for a refreshing contrast. Roasted or steamed vegetables also make a great side. Asparagus, green beans, or zucchini complement the flavors nicely. For something heartier, consider serving the halibut over a bed of quinoa or rice. The grains soak up any extra lemon-garlic sauce, enhancing the dish. If you’re feeling adventurous, a light, citrusy salsa can bring an extra pop of flavor. Combine diced mango or pineapple with red onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime for a delightful topping. Finally, a glass of chilled white wine, like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio, can elevate your meal and make it feel even more special.
