Skillet Meatball Parmesan This skillet meatball Parmesan dish is so good. The meatballs are first seared in the cast iron skillet to create a nice crust. Then the meatballs are baked along with the marinara sauce. Mozzarella cheese is spread on top. The meatballs are finished off in the oven until the cheese is melted. The result is some delicious meatballs – perfectly seared in the outside and moist in the inside. Just how I like my meatballs. Garnish these meatballs with Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley and serve them on top of some pasta or on its own. Enjoy!

Cooking Tips for Perfect Meatballs

Getting the perfect meatball texture is all about the balance of ingredients and cooking technique. First, use a combination of ground meats. A mix of beef and pork gives a great flavor and keeps the meatballs juicy. When mixing the meat, avoid overworking it. Just combine the ingredients until they are mixed. Over-mixing can lead to tough meatballs. Use breadcrumbs soaked in milk instead of dry breadcrumbs. This adds moisture, resulting in tender meatballs. Seasoning is crucial too; don’t skimp on garlic, herbs, and spices. Fresh parsley or basil can elevate the flavor profile. When searing the meatballs, ensure your skillet is hot enough. This helps achieve that golden crust. After searing, let the meatballs rest for a few minutes before adding them to the sauce. This resting time allows the juices to redistribute, keeping them moist during cooking.

Serving Suggestions and Variations

Skillet meatball Parmesan is super versatile when it comes to serving. While pasta is a classic choice, think outside the box. Serve them on a toasted baguette for a delicious meatball sub. Add some sautéed onions and peppers for a more filling meal. If you want a lighter option, serve the meatballs over zucchini noodles or a bed of sautéed spinach. For a fun twist, try adding different cheeses on top. Provolone or a sprinkle of feta can give the dish a unique flavor. If you enjoy a bit of heat, add red pepper flakes to your marinara sauce. For those who want to switch up the protein, consider using ground turkey or chicken. These meats may require a bit more moisture to keep the meatballs tender, so adjust your ingredients accordingly. No matter how you serve it, this dish is bound to be a hit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use ground turkey instead of beef and pork?

Ground turkey works well as a lighter alternative, but keep in mind it might be a bit drier. Consider adding a little extra milk or olive oil to keep the meatballs moist.

What should I serve with skillet meatball Parmesan?

This dish goes great with pasta, but you can also serve it on a sub roll for a meatball sandwich. A side salad or garlic bread complements it perfectly too.

How do I store leftovers?

Let the meatballs cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. They’ll last in the fridge for about 3 to 4 days, or you can freeze them for up to 3 months.

Can I make the meatball mixture ahead of time?

Making the meatball mixture ahead is a great idea. Just cover and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours before cooking, which allows the flavors to meld beautifully.

What are common mistakes to avoid when making meatballs?

One common mistake is overworking the meat when mixing, which can lead to tough meatballs. Also, make sure your skillet is hot enough before searing to get that nice golden crust.
