Adobo Wings

My family can’t get enough of chicken wings. Our all-time favorite is Crispy Chicken Wings, which is a simple but delicious fried chicken wings recipe that I got from a Filipino friend. I tried baking it to make the wings healthier but nothing beats the taste of  freshly fried crispy and browned fried chicken wings. I am constantly looking for wings recipes and I have tried and shared a few with you. Baked honey garlic chicken wings is by far the most popular. These Filipino style baked adobo wings are similar in that they are marinated for at least an hour and then baked. In this recipe, the chicken wings were first marinated in a tangy adobo sauce. I marinated it overnight to maximize the flavor. First I tried frying the wings. However, it was difficult and messy so I made them again but baked them instead. Baking the wings was a definite success- it was easy to clean, cook and resulted in delicious baked chicken wings that are packed full of adobo flavor. As expected, my family thoroughly enjoyed this dish. Yummy!

Cooking Tips for Perfect Adobo Wings

For the best adobo wings, start with high-quality chicken wings. Fresh wings will give you the best flavor and texture. If you can, choose organic or free-range chicken for a richer taste. Before marinating, pat the wings dry with paper towels. This helps the marinade stick better and ensures a crispier skin when baking. When mixing your adobo marinade, don’t be shy with the garlic and bay leaves. These ingredients are key to that authentic adobo flavor. If you prefer a bit of heat, adding a few slices of fresh chili can elevate the dish. Consider letting the wings marinate longer than an hour if you have the time. Overnight marination allows the flavors to penetrate deeper, resulting in juicier wings. While baking, make sure to spread the wings out evenly on the baking sheet. This prevents them from steaming and helps them become golden brown and crispy. Finally, keep an eye on the wings during the last few minutes of baking. A quick broil can add an extra crispiness but watch closely to avoid burning.

Serving Suggestions for Adobo Wings

Adobo wings can be a versatile dish, perfect for various occasions. For a casual family dinner, serve them alongside steamed rice to soak up the delicious sauce. A side of pickled vegetables or a simple green salad can add a refreshing contrast to the rich flavors of the wings. If you’re hosting a party or game day, set up a wing bar with different dips and sides. A tangy vinegar dipping sauce, garlic aioli, or even a spicy salsa can complement the wings beautifully. For a fun twist, consider making mini sliders using the adobo wings. Just shred the meat off the bone and serve it on small buns with lettuce and a drizzle of your favorite sauce. This adds a creative touch to your serving options. For drinks, pairing the wings with a light beer or a citrusy cocktail can enhance the overall experience. The acidity in the drinks balances the richness of the wings, making for a satisfying meal.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I substitute for soy sauce in the marinade?

If you’re looking for a soy sauce alternative, coconut aminos or tamari work great. They provide a similar umami flavor without the gluten.

How should I store leftover adobo wings?

Store leftover wings in an airtight container in the fridge for up to four days. Just reheat them in the oven to get that crispy texture back.

Can I make the marinade ahead of time?

You can totally prepare the marinade a day in advance. Just mix all the ingredients and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to marinate the wings.

What sides go well with adobo wings?

Adobo wings pair nicely with steamed rice, a fresh salad, or even some crispy french fries. You could also serve them with a tangy dipping sauce for extra flavor.

What are common mistakes to avoid when making adobo wings?

One common mistake is not marinating the wings long enough. For the best flavor, aim for at least an hour, but overnight is ideal. Also, make sure the wings are patted dry before marinating to help the seasoning stick.
